Why have I been invited to complete this course?
School staff are often an important part of children and young people's support network.
If you have been invited to take this course it will be because your school is delivering the programme and children you work with may be taking part. For the Team of Life to have as much impact as possible within children and young people's lives and across the school, it's important that as many members of the community as possible have
an understanding of what it is and how they might be involved.
Even if you are not facilitating Team of Life, you may still be involved in some way. School staff are often an important part of children and young people's support network. Team of Life acknowledges the significant people in children's lives in a number of ways. When taking part in Team of Life, children may assign members of the school staff a specific role such as coach or medic and create a team card about them, highlighting the skills and special abilities that they bring to their life. School staff members may also feature on children and young people's 'teamsheets', which describe their team identity and ethos. Children and young people may celebrate the way a member of staff supported them with one of their past goal achievements or they may be called on to support them with a future goal they wish to work towards with the help of their team.
We have also included a very brief introduction to Narrative Therapy, which is the model underpinning Team of Life, in this course. This is to help you understand what we are trying to achieve with the programme. Narrative ideas will also support you in your own conversations and approach with students.
This course takes less than 1 hour to complete and we hope you enjoy it.
