Team of Life Resilience Programme

A unique narrative approach to building resilience aimed at children aged 7 and upwards

Team of Life helps children and young people to recognise and build their support networks and become more aware of their strengths and achievements. The use of sporting metaphors enables the development of rich strength-based stories of skill and knowledge for tackling problems, avoiding obstacles and achieving their goals in life. We have developed our Team of Life Resilience Programme for delivery by the children's workforce with groups of children. Any child can be invited to take part to help build their resilience.

Why have I been invited to complete this course?

Families are a vital part of children and young people's support network.

If you have been invited to take this course it will be because a child in your care may be taking part in the Team of Life programme.

For the Team of Life to have as much impact as possible within children and young people's lives and across the school, it's important that as many members of the community as possible have an understanding of what it is and how they might be involved.

Family members are often an important part of children and young people's support network. Team of Life acknowledges the significant people in children's lives in a number of ways. When taking part in Team of Life, children may assign family members a specific role such as coach or medic and create a team card about them, highlighting the skills and special abilities that they bring to their life. Family members may also feature on children and young people's 'teamsheets', which describe their team identity and ethos. Children and young people may celebrate the way a family member supported them with one of their past goal achievements or they may be called on to support them with a future goal they wish to work towards with the help of their team.

This course takes less than 20 minutes to complete and we hope you enjoy it. Do feel free to share the link with extended family members who would like to be involved!
